There are a lot of Puerto Galera Waterfalls and magnificent adventures you can enjoy when you’re in OrientalMindoro. Tamaraw Falls & Tukuran Falls are a couple of our favorite spots to experience on the island.
If you’re into easy jungle adventures then come and visit some of the most beautiful “hidden paradises” located very close to BADLADZ resorts.
Tukuran Falls
This journey is beautiful as it takes you along the coast, high above the sea, and you’ll experience incredible views of Puerto Galera and the surrounding islands on the trip.
Tukuran falls is just a one hour drive then a 30 minute walk from BADLADZ Beach & Dive Resort. Its a perfect daytime activity for you and your group to get out and do some exploring around the island during your stay. Along the way, you will also visit Tamaraw falls which has its own scenic beauty.
These falls are the closest and easiest to visit here in Puerto Galera. Although their locations are somewhat close to one another, they each have their own unique characteristics that separate them from one another.
There are other Puerto Galera Waterfalls like the Aninuan Falls, but that is another story. Here I will guide you on how to get to Tukaran falls with an enjoyable visit at Tamaraw falls along the way.
Preparing to go to Tamaraw & Tukuran Waterfalls
Before we leave for our journey to the Puerto Galera Waterfalls let’s make sure we have everything that we need first. Make sure to arrange food, snacks, water, and other beverages. This area is quite a journey off the main road and there are no restaurants and few stores in the area. Wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and a hat is a good idea.
You can also hire a tour guide if you would like to adventure around and get a feel for what else is happening in the area and do some exploring while you out. If you are staying at BADLADZ we can arrange all of this for you so that you can enjoy your adventure and make the most of your time.
How to go to Tamaraw Falls & Tukuran Falls in Puerto Galera
Getting there is quite easy with several options to choose from no matter where you happen to be coming from around the Puerto Galera area. There are several modes of transportation that you can use to get to Tamaraw falls then Tukaran falls.
The most popular options are (in no particular order):
- Taking a Public Jeepney
- Hiring a Trike
- Private Van/Jeepney
- Rent a Motorbike
Let’s talk about each option to see which would be best for you and your group depending on your interests.
Taking a Public Jeepney
You can catch a public Jeepney going to Calapan from Puerto Galera. Ask them to let you off at Tamaraw Falls. Keep in mind the Jeepney may be overcrowded which during the hot season can be quite uncomfortable. You will find that the price to get to Tamaraw Falls in Puerto Galera by Jeepney is inexpensive. Its a good way to go there if you want to keep costs down.
Once you have seen & enjoyed Tamaraw Falls, simply catch the next Jeepney going to Calapan. Ask to be let off at CALSAPA Road in San Teodoro. From there, hire a Tricycle to take you to the trailhead for Tukaran falls.

Hiring a Trike
A slightly better option would be to hire a tricycle. This will give you your own space but is difficult for a group. This option will give you some more flexibility. You can talk to the driver to stop any place along the way so you have some more wiggle room and freedom on your trip.
Taking a Private Van or Jeepney
If you have several people in your party, then it makes more sense to rent a van or Jeepney to take you out for this excursion. They will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel.
Rent a Motorbike
If you would like to go it alone then you can always rent a motorbike and set out on the curvy roads through the mountains. This gives you the most flexibility of all as you can explore not just the Puerto Galera WaterFalls but the places along the way at your own discretion.
This is our favorite way to do it when there are only a few of us. You can stop easily at Tamaraw falls and you can ride all the way to Tukaran Falls by bike. But if you are not a professional rider, it would be best to leave your bikes at BADLADZ Funny Farm and walk the 30 minutes to Tukuran falls.

First Stop - Tamaraw Falls
Near the city of San Teodoro in OrientalMindoro, you will find Barangay Villaflor. This is where the famous natural wonder of Tamaraw Falls in Puerto Galera can be found. This majestic beauty is one of the many natural wonders you can see here on Mindoro Island. It’s about 423ft (128m) tall and is right along the main road so you can’t miss it. This is the same road you would take to Calapan as well.
You will find that these falls are a series of smaller puerto galera waterfalls that combine and make up the larger waterfall. It flows down the mountain into a refreshing pool that you can jump into if you are feeling up to it. You’ll also find picnic huts and shower rooms. Making it the perfect retreat for family and friends on those extra warm and humid days.
There is a small Entrance Fee but considering the atmosphere and the build of the area. Completely worth the money to get the chance to relax in this oasis of a waterfall pool and really enjoy a piece of island paradise.
One of the main reasons why so many visitors choose Tamaraw falls as their number one tourist destination is because of its convenient location.

Puerto Galera Tamaraw Waterfalls History
According to Tamaraw Falls history, the falls are named after the Mindoro Dwarf Buffalo called the Tamaraw. This is a very rare and endangered species of buffalo found only on Mindoro island. Unfortunately, now Tamaraw is on the critically endangered species list due to hunting, logging, and human habitation.
There are many festivals associated with the Tamaraw making this a special place for this type of event. If you are looking for just another reason to come experience the island of Mindoro or the area of Puerto Galera. This tourist destination is definitely a great one.
Next Stop - Tukuran Falls
It’s a 30-minute drive from Tamaraw Falls to the BADLADZ Funny Farm where you will start your journey. At the Farm, you can take pictures and visit our Cows, Goats, Pigs, Geese, Turkeys, Ducks, Chickens, and Rabbits just for Fun. Here also you will see the jungle version of ‘public transport”, the Carabao cart.
If you don’t feel like walking or you have coolers full of food & drinks, these carts will be the main form of transportation thru the valley to Tukuran Falls, also known as Hidden Paradise.

They have been in use here on the island for many years making them a staple in the history of Puerto Galera and something you will always remember from your experience here on the island.
Through the Jungle
Actually, not really jungle, more like a stroll thru the countryside. From BADLADZ Funny Farm, it will be around a 30-minute walk or ride through the lush, dense jungle along the river bank. There will be mosquitoes there so bring a bottle of insect repellent if you are normally a target of little beasts. There’s also a lot of tasty tropical fruits that grow in the area, just ask the locals to grab one for you if you would like to try some for yourself.
You’re going to get your feet wet on this one no matter what, so make sure to bring shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Slippers are not recommended unless you grew up wearing them. They get slippery and you will certainly slide out of them while walking. You’ll cross the same freshwater river at least 6 times before reaching your destination. The path sneaks its way thru the thousands of tall coconut trees & foliage along the path. Don’t forget your camera or cell phone BUT remember, be careful close to the water!
Jungle Scenery
I guarantee you the scenery is awesome, breath-taking I might add. You can take pictures and videos anywhere you like and the adventure on the way to the puerto galera waterfalls is almost as epic as the falls themselves so enjoy the journey along the way!
The river leisurely makes its way down the valley, rolling over the rocks. Further up the fiver, you’ll find rapids that are exciting to float through. You can go diving, swimming, rock sliding, and more fun.
And of course, it wouldn’t be complete without some great food to eat. You can set up and cook your food at any of the picnic shelters alongside the waterfalls.
After eating you can go back for more swimming, more exploring and more fun fun fun. It really takes the stress away.
Let's Go Home
When you’re done it’s time to head back to BADLADZ and hang out on the beach. Just keep in mind this important reminder. Whatever you take in, please take it out. Don’t leave any trash.
